This course provides an overview of the financial management basics that you will use throughout the course. It introduces some of the basic terms as well as the role that finance plays in the firm and markets today. Specifically, this course will cover the following topics: the role of the financial manager; the many reasons why non-business students need a working knowledge of finance; the different types of business organizations; how the financial market works; accounting income versus cash flows and book values versus market values; the role the interest rate plays in our economy; financial ratio interpretation; the concept of time value of money; and making financial decisions. This course is intended for non-business students. Students cannot take this course for credit towards a business degree at Concordia.
